Tesla has delighted Tesla enthusiasts with two new paint colors, Quicksilver and Midnight Cherry Red.

Quicksilver is a gorgeous shade of silver with slightly darker undertones, but still lighter than Midnight Silver Metallic.

Meanwhile, Midnight Cherry Red presents a deep rich candy shade of red that makes it distinctive from the existing Red Multi-Coat paint.

Nonetheless, both paints are multi-layered with up to 13 layers of paint.

This is enabled by a state-of-the-art paint shop at Giga Berlin.

Accordingly only Giga Berlin can produce these colors, as confirmed by Elon Musk.

“Both are made from highly-pigmented metallic paint, designed to change depending on viewing angle & light.”

These colors have replaced Midnight Silver Metalic and Red Multi-Coat respectively in Europe. Quicksilver carries a significantly higher cost of 3.000 €, while Midnight Cherry Red is available for 3.200 €. In comparison, the classic Deep Blue Metallic costs 1.600 €.

Both colors are immediately available to configure in select markets on Model Y vehicles produced at Giga Berlin.

Real Talk

Tesla enthusiasts get excited about new colors, and rightfully so.

We’ve had the same standard swatch of colors for upwards of five years.

Quicksilver is a perfect complement to Tesla’s vehicles, and more closely replaces a standard Silver Metallic that was discontinued rather than the darker Midnight Silver Metallic.

On the other hand Midnight Cherry Red is a perfect refresh of Red Multi-Coat, offering a richer color that plays well into a sporty design. Side note: we originally typed that as Midnight Silver Metallic, so there is a bit of potential for confusion with the naming.

Unfortunately, offering these colors in other markets would require Tesla to upgrade the paint shops at Giga Fremont and Giga Shanghai. It isn’t off the table for Tesla to upgrade Giga Fremont and possibly Giga Austin to be able to offer the new paint colors, although we won’t see it in the near future.

That’s a shame, since these colors may be the best that Tesla has offered to date.
