Tesla Experimenting with Bold New Color Options

Tesla has produced a number of vehicles in a variety of new colors that are its most exciting and unique to date.
A drone operator in China spotted a lot full of Tesla’s at Gigafactory Shanghai that feature bold, brash, new colors.
Among the usual color options, most commonly occupied by Pearl White Multi-Coat and Solid Black, are a palette of originality and creativity that isn’t usually seen on Tesla’s vehicles unless they’re modified by a third-party.
New colors include shades of pink, bright blue, mint green, teal, orange, and a new dark blue option which may be the previously-leaked Deep Crimson Multi-Coat. We can also spot what appears to be a new solid gray option along with a lighter shade of blue.
A YouTube video of a drone flying over Gigafactory Shanghai inadvertently unearthed the unique production vehicles.
It’s unclear if Tesla is delivering the vehicles to customers or utilizing them for their own internal testing or marketing purposes.
Real Talk
Offering a more unique variety of color options could serve Tesla incredibly well.
It is becoming commonplace and frankly a little boring seeing so many Model 3’s in the standard swath of colors. It’s all about offering personalization so that owners can get creative with their vehicle.
Tesla could theroretically do what automakers such as BMW do with their Individual color options and offer a practically unlimited palette, at a cost.
However, we think offering a selection of 5–10 bold new colors could be all that Tesla needs to further differentiate its vehicles and make them as head-turning as possible on the road. They could be offered as a new series of colors behind the standard paint options on the configurator.
It was reported that Tesla could offer wraps on its vehicles for installation at delivery centers; however, these vehicles were spotted at a Gigafactory so it’s presumed that the colors on offer are a new paint experiment by the automaker rather than a wrap.
We would certainly like to see a bright blue Model 3. Speculatively, the most eye-catching colors may be limited to the Performance models.
Demand is so strong currently alongside limited production capacity there’s no real incentive for Tesla to offer the same new colors in North America. Considering the automaker’s ambitions in China it is possible for the colors to launch to the consumer market at Gigafactory Shanghai first and make its way to Fremont next year.
