A Leaked Model 3 ‘Highland’ Refresh Showcases an Entirely New Design
A supposed picture of the Model 3 ‘Highland’ refresh has leaked, revealing an aggressively bold design update.
Wraps have come off of the Model 3 Highland, revealing a design with one almost-unanimous conclusion: “wow.”
It’s a much more dramatic difference than anticipated, with sleek new headlights that bring out the more aggressive stance.
Tesla has been testing Model 3 vehicles in recent months with camouflage covering the front and rear bumpers, which is where a bulk of the aesthetic refresh is situated.
There are also new Sport wheels that appear similarly more edgy, and possibly powder-coated.
This comes with a caveat that the image circulating hasn’t been confirmed to be the refreshed Model 3, although it does appear to be legitimate based on our knowledge of what to expect in the refresh.
While Tesla has reportedly begun adjusting production lines at Giga Shanghai, Giga Fremont isn’t expected to begin producing the refresh until the third or fourth quarter of the year.
Real Talk
If accurate, and we do believe there is a significantly greater chance it is, then this is exactly what Model 3 needed.
A few key components come together to create an even more modern design that’s unmistakably new, and desirable.
That’s important to prevent a race to the bottom with Tesla’s pricing, which correlates to when demand begins to wane — as it has currently for Model 3.
This refresh isn’t purely cosmetic, as Tesla will make a thousand other changes under the hood in an attempt to simplify production and streamline costs.
We may see the next-generation Model 3 sooner than anticipated if demand falls behind production, particularly as this leak may work against Tesla as anticipation builds for an official launch.
